Digby became a fulltime jazzman in l977 after twelve years as a qualified librarian in Southend-on-Sea. From l973 he worked his way up as a part-timer through established bands including Hugh Rainey, Eggy Ley, Eric Silk, Keith Nichols, Ron Russell and Lennie Hastings and deputized regularly for Alex Welsh, recording his first album with Welsh's band in l974.

As you read this, Digby (now celebrating more than thirty years in the music business) continues to lead Britain's most exciting young jazz band, his 'Half Dozen'. First formed in l995 the 'Half Dozen' has been constantly praised for its versatility, professionalism and showmanship.

Playing for the Grand Benefit at the 100 Club, 100 Oxford Street for our old friend JOHN BARNES currently making his recovery from a serious illness. His ’spiritual son’ ALAN BARNES is the organizer and a truly all-star team will be present to pay musical respects to John from 12-2.30pm at London’s legendary ‘home of Traditional jazz’. Raising money for Chai Cancer Care in the Loughton Lounge, Loughton Synagogue, Porters Lane, Loughton IG10 3JE. The music - for this most valuable of causes - starts at 7pm, and you can choose a three-course meal with wine (£35.00) for then, or stand at the bar for £20.00 (with a glass of wine at 9pm!).
