A very welcome (and long-awaited) reunion with my old friend – and legendary cornettist – GERRY SALISBURY, at DEREHAM JAZZ SOCIETY. The gig takes place at the Lakeside Country Club, Ling, Norfolk NR9 5RS and we have the marvellous guitarist PHIL BROOKE and his Trio along for the ride. If you haven’t heard Gerry by now – do catch up!. He’s Kenny Ball’s favourite musician and has had a fantastic career since the 1950s playing with everyone from Mick Mulligan and George Melly up to the Beatles! Don’t miss this one! A very BIG day for the NATIONAL JAZZ ARCHIVE when the guest for our Annual Celebrity Interview will be SIR MICHAEL PARKINSON. I’ll be interviewing him about his fantastic career – as well as his passion for jazz – and it’s hoped that he will be joined by his longtime musical partner the great LAURIE HOLLOWAY (piano). One of the saddest events of 2012 was the death of  New Orleans-style clarinettist DAVE CLARIDGE. So tonight at Prittlewell Jazz Club we play a Memorial concert to my old and dear friend in the good company of ‘Red Beans and Rice’ ; the band who played regularly with Dave in his later years. His widow Gwen will be gracing us with her presence too – so do come along to celebrate the life of a man whose heart belonged in New Orleans jazz and made countless people happy with his music-making. Once again (but never too often) we return to Suffolk’s premier jazz centre, The Hunter Club, Bury St.Edmunds for Jim Bayne to present a dual tribute to two British jazz giants, Humphrey Lyttelton and Alex Welsh. Alex was my kindly Godfather in the earlier years of my jazz career and I played with his band on many, many occasions (and recorded with it too)  - as of course did the great ROY WILLIAMS who was Alex’s regular trombonist for over ten years and  joins us for this session! Guesting with All-Star band at Chipstead Football Club! This is a great venue and all the top players appear there! However if you are travelling to Chipstead FC it’s best to go to Coulsdon South where there is a District Cars cab office and you should be able to get a cab to the ground for about £5 and book a return journey. Beware though! -if you travel to Chipstead Station there is NO cab office and it is about 1.1/2 miles to the ground, up a very steep and narrow hill with NO pavements or street lights.
