New news from Digby- January 12 2008!
Saturday, January 12th, 2008
Hi! And to anyone who just checked in for the first time - Happy New Year!
Well January is now well under way, and last Thursday - thanks to our good friends Richard and Jeff Horton - we had a fine fundraiser at 100 Oxford Street for the National Jazz Archive! The All Stars - Campbell Burnap, Julian Marc Stringle, John China, Paul Sealey, Pete Skiv and Pete Cater - played a great set and later we were joined by both John Altman (direct from Hollywood!) and the star of the ‘Lady sings the Blues’ review, Miss Val Wiseman who sang up a storm David Nathan (NJA Archivist) paid a moving tribute to the late jazz journalist Kevin Henriques whose writing we’ve enjoyed for years! Kevin has left his collections to the Archive - a great thing! Most of our Trustees - Jean and Stan Ball, Graham Langley, Jayne Hunter-Randall were in attendance and we raised a healthy sum for the funds! - around £750.00.
All’s well at ‘theJazz’ - our new 24-hour jazz station and more and more people are tuning in; at the moment getting on for half-a-million listeners. Do check out ‘theJazz’s website - at ‘theJazz.com’ for all the latest news. And don’t forget to tune into my show - 3-5pm every Sunday. By the way; if you do most of your listening in-car - which a lot of people do - the station is now marketing a little gizmo that you can fit to your receiver and pick up ‘theJazz’ - plus all the other DAB stations - immediately. Call the station and they’ll give you all the details:0207 343 9000! It’s easy to fit and not expensive either!
As for me, I’m doing fine; keeping busy with the station and playing some nice January gigs: Chigwell Jazz Club with Ron Russell’s All Stars on Tuesday 22nd and then to Sansea on Saturday 26 with ‘Lady sings the Blues’ - our first show of 2008. So do try to join us; it’s nice in Wales this time of the year!
Take care and be in touch soon. If you’d like a request on my show just drop me an E-mail! digby@digjazz.co.uk!
Cheers!
